Vol. 397 No. 4

Written Answers. - Concessionary Teacher Application.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

78 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction a concessionary teacher at St. Benedict's national school, Grange Park, Raheny, Dublin 5, in view of the fact that the school is located in an area of high unemployment where many people live on low incomes and where there is an above average number of single parents and separated persons.

My Department has received an application from the board of management of St. Benedict's national school, Grange Park, Raheny, Dublin 5, for the allocation of a concessionary teacher to the school on the grounds that it serves a disadvantaged area.

As the Deputy is aware, 95 additional posts were sanctioned recently under this special scheme. There are no plans at present to allocate additional posts to schools serving disadvantaged areas.
