Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin School Post Application.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

176 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request from Archbishop McQuaid senior national shcool, County Dublin, for the appointment of a remedial teacher; and if she will agree to the request.

Each application for the services of a remedial teacher is considered on its merits and posts are allocated in accordance with priority of need. In assessing the need my Department has regard to the professional advice of its inspectorate.

I have sanctioned during 1989/90 30 additional remedial teachers in primary schools. The application in question was unsuccessful on this occasion. I will, however, be keeping the appointment of further remedial teachers in primary schools under review.
