Vol. 397 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Waterford Schools Application.

Paul Bradford

Question:

179 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education when she first received a request for the appointment of a remedial teacher to serve Ballyduff and Tallow national schools, County Waterford, the reason an appointment has not been sanctioned; and if she will give a commitment to sanction this post in the near future.

An application for a remedial teacher to serve the schools in question was received in 1984.

Remedial teaching posts are allocated in accordance with priority of need of applicant schools as determined by my Department and not on the basis of date of application. The schools in question have not to date qualified for a remedial teacher on the basis of priority of need.
I have sanctioned during 1989/90 30 additional remedial teachers in primary schools and will be keeping the appointment of further remedial teachers under review.
