Vol. 397 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Sea Radiation Levels.

Peter Barry

Question:

78 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Energy if his Department measures the level of radiation in the Irish Sea; and, if so, if he considers that the level of radiation poses a threat to marine life.

The Nuclear Energy Board, in conjunction with the Department of the Marine, carries out an extensive monitoring programme of the levels of radiation in the Irish Sea.

The results, which are published by the Nuclear Energy Board, indicate that the level of radiation in the Irish Sea does not pose a threat to marine life, nor indeed to fish consumers.
