Vol. 397 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Development Project EC Funding.

Edward Nealon

Question:

84 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Energy the number and value of projects with an Irish involvement which are in preparation for approval under the EC "Thermie" programme for 1990 to 1994; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The full introduction of the EC "Thermie" new multiannual programme, to replace the EC demonstration grant scheme, has been delayed for the moment due to the lack of agreement between the European Parliament and the EC Commission on budgetary allocations. I have made the adoption of the programme one of my priorities during the Irish Presidency of the Energy Council.

The EC Commission has, however, issued notification of a provisional call for tenders for 1990 for suitable projects which is conditional on the implementation of the programme. Project proposers are required to submit the necessary documentation to reach the EC Commission by noon on 1 June, 1990. Further information about the programme can be had from Eolas.

Information is, therefore, not available on the number of Irish projects in preparation or in value terms because of this delay and also because proposers may deal directly with the EC without the involvement of Irish State agencies.
