Vol. 397 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Admissions.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

105 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education, having regard to the ongoing discussions on the question of admission for some children in the area to Aghards national school, Celbridge, County Kildare, if her attention has been drawn to any precedent for the decision which led to the dispute; if she will suggest a means of arbitration in the dispute; the means, if any, by which similar disputes have been resolved; if her Department have previously become involved in such issues in an effort to resolve similar disputes; if so, the means whereby agreement was reached in such cases; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position with regard to the enrolment policy for Aghards was previously outlined in written reply No. 50 to the Deputy on 8 March 1990 and also in written reply No. 115 on 14 March 1990. As the issues involved are being dealt with by the local authorities of the schools and the patron any further statements by me at this time would not be appropriate.
