Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Traffic/Parking By-Laws.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

278 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment if it is his intention to undertake a complete review of the traffic and parking by-laws 1986 for the entire country in the near future.

Sections 89 and 90 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, provide that local traffic and parking by-laws are made by the Garda Commissioner following consultation with the local authorities concerned and subject to my consent. These by-laws were reviewed on a comprehensive basis as recently as 1986. The question as to whether a further comprehensive review of the 1986 by-laws is warranted would be primarily a matter for the commissioner.
