Vol. 397 No. 10

Written Answers. - Parking of Skips.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

51 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment if he proposes to take any action to prevent skips being parked on single and double yellow lines; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The parking of skips is controlled by provisions contained in local traffic and parking by-laws made by the Garda Commissioner, with my consent. Separate by-laws containing these provisions apply in each county.

The by-laws contain a blanket ban on the parking of skips in clearways during their operational periods. In addition, they provide that skips must be so lighted as to be clearly visible during any period where vehicles are required to be lighted.

The extension of the scope of the bylaw provisions to encompass specific prohibitions on the parking of skips on single and double yellow lines would be a matter for consideration by the Garda in the first instance.
