Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - Unit for Girl Offenders.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

55 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to her statement made in reply to parliamentary question No. 41 of 31 January 1990, that an interdepartmental group were then considering the need for a secure unit for long-term girl offenders and were likely to report in a matter of weeks, the committee have yet reported; if not, when they are expected to report; if the report will be published; if the group sought submissions from any interested parties; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The committee in question is the interdepartmental group on the administration of justice under the Department of Justice on which my Department are represented. I understand that the group have not yet furnished their full report. The questions of when the report is expected, whether it will be published and if the group sought submissions are matters for the Minister for Justice.
