Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pupil/Teacher Ratio.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

68 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education the average class size in second level schools, excluding VPTP students, which will result from her announcement of a reduction in the pupil/teacher ratio in September.

Class sizes are set by the school authorities, depending on the school's quota/allocation and the varying curricula needs of each school. The effect of the concession allowed in relation to the pupil/teacher ratio in second level schools for the school session 1990-91 as regards class size will not, in any case, manifest itself until then.
