Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - Allocation for Roads.

James Leonard

Question:

76 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance if he will review the allocation in sub-region 6 north-east in the National Development Plan 1989-1993, and increase the allocation from 3.4 per cent for non-national roads in view of the deteriorating road surfaces in the region.

Sub-region 6 of the National Development Plan refers to the northwest area of Ireland.

The amount specified for road development in the plan had to be revised to take account of the actual assistance for roads approved by the European Commission under the Community Support Framework for Ireland. It follows, therefore, that the sub-regional provision must also be revised. The extent of the revision will be determined when the operational programme for roads and other transport infrastructure is approved by the European Commission.
