Vol. 398 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

John Bruton

Question:

78 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the reason a pre-1700 A.D. bridge, which is still in use, cannot be declared to be a national monument.

The continued use of such bridges does not preclude them from registration or other forms of statutory protection under the National Monuments Acts. Such measures are not necessary where bridges are the responsibility of local authorities.
