Vol. 398 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Entrance Tests.

John Bruton

Question:

70 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the reason her Department do not keep any statistical information on the extent to which schools in the free education scheme administer entrance tests.

As I explained to the Deputy in reply to previous questions on 2 May 1990 the selection of pupils for admission to second level schools, and the criteria used for this purpose, are decided by the school authorities in each case. In these circumstances, my Department do not require the information in question.
