Written Answers. - Consultant Medical Staff.

Bernard Allen

Question:

148 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health when he will take steps regarding the report of the review group on consultants' pay which is to be finalised within the next two months.

Bernard Allen

Question:

152 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the discussions which have taken place with the representative bodies of consultants in order to involve consultants more in the administration of hospital services.

I wish to take Questions Nos. 148 and 152 together. I understand that the review body on higher remuneration in the public sector is about to complete its examination and report upon the remuneration, terms and conditions (other than remuneration) of consultant medical staff. It would be premature to hold discussions with representative bodies of consultant media staff on terms and conditions including any proposals to involve consultants to a greater extent in the administration and management of hospital services until the review body's findings are made known.
