Question:

51 Mr. Nealon asked the Taoiseach if he will outline in respect of himself and his Ministers of State (a) the number of special advisers (other than career civil servants) appointed, (b) their names, (c) their remuneration and (d) whether the appointments are on a full or part-time basis.

The attached schedule sets out the details requested by the Deputy in respect of my Departments.

£134 per diem for 5 day week for the duration of the EC Presidency and thereafter 4 days per week

Arts Adviser to the Taoiseach (full-time for duration of EC Presidency, thereafter as across).

Ms. Catherine Butler

£22,862 p.a.

Special Adviser to the Taoiseach for the duration of the Government's term of office (full-time).

Ms. Eileen Foy

£22,862 p.a.

Special Adviser to the Taoiseach for the duration of the Government's term of office (full-time).

Dr. Martin Mansergh

£40,011 p.a.

Special Adviser to the Taoiseach for the duration of the Government's term of office (full-time).

53 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline in respect of himself and his Minister of State (a) the number of special advisers (other than career civil servants), appointed, (b) their names, (c) their remuneration and (d) whether the appointments are on a full or part-time basis.

A full-time post of special adviser in my private office is filled by Ms. Marie Garvey at an annual salary of £19,047. The position is temporary and will terminate not later than the date on which the Government ceases to hold office.

No appointment as special adviser has been made by the Minister of State.
