Written Answers. - Aid for Baltic States.

Peter Barry

Question:

56 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the General Affairs Council have discussed sending aid to Lithuania and Latvia; the conclusion which was reached; and if it was decided to send aid, the form of aid which will be sent.

At the General Affairs Council on 7 May there was a brief discussion of the question of providing humanitarian aid to Lithuania. The Council was informed that the Community had received no specific request from Lithuania for humanitarian aid. The Council will discuss such a request should it be received.

The question of providing aid to Latvia has not been discussed by the Council.
