Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Hackney Carriage Licences.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

175 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any proposals to update legislation for the regulation and issue of hackney carriage licences in Dublin, in view of the fact that the operative legislation dates from 1853; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The relevant legislation is the Dublin Carriage Acts of 1853 and 1854.

Regulations made under this legislation control the issue of licences for hackneys in Dublin, charges for such licences and the locations of stands where they may ply for hire. I understand that the regulations are being updated by the Garda Commissioner and that it is not necessary to update the primary legislation in this area to effect these changes. I have no function in this matter.
