Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Irish Film Industry Resources.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

69 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the steps which are being taken by his Department to maximise the resources available to Irish film distributors and producers under the Media 92 programme.

As the Deputy may be aware, the European Commission on 18 April 1990 forwarded to me as President of the Council of Ministers a communication accompanied by two proposals for Council decisions relating to an action programme to promote the development of the European audio-visual industry over the years 1991-95. This will constitute the development of the present pilot phase which is to come to an end next December.

On 7 May 1990 the Commission's communication was formally presented to the General Affairs Council by the Commission and it was agreed that a special ad hoc group would be established to examine it and report back. The first meeting of this group is to be held next month under the Presidency.

The Deputy can be assured that my Department will continue to take fully into account the interests of Irish film producers and distributors as the media programme develops.
