Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Access Facilities for Disabled Persons.

John Bruton

Question:

71 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline, in respect of each State body for which he is statutorily responsible, the public buildings where easy access facilities such as ramps, lifts or otherwise for persons using wheelchairs do not exist; the services provided in the buildings; and the plans to improve accessibility thereto.

There are two State bodies under the aegis of my Department i.e. the Agency for Personal Service Overseas and the Refugee Resettlement Committee. Each agency occupies a small amount of office space in rented accommodation in Dublin. I understand that, in both instances, ramps or lifts do not form part of the buildings' facilities. I intend to ask the agencies to raise with the owners of the buildings whether they have any current plans to improve facilities to take account of the access requirements of disabled persons.
