175 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education the number of established positions of (a) cleaner, (b) messenger and (c) porter which exist in her Department; the number of vacancies which have remained unfilled because of the embargo; the present number of vacancies; the number which are capable of being filled; the number which have been filled since 1 January 1990; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has ten established positions of messenger at present. This number is two more than the number of such positions my Department had on 21 July 1981 when restrictions on the numbers employed in the public service were introduced. There are no vacancies in these positions and no appointments have been made to them since 1 January 1990.

My Department has no established positions as porter or cleaner.
