Vol. 399 No. 5

Written Answers. - Weighbridge Operating Radius.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

24 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment if the five mile limit in which lorries can be brought by the Garda to weighbridges for checking excessive weight on roads will be extended to a more realistic radius of 15 miles.

I intend to propose an increase of the operative radius for appointed weighbridges from five miles to ten miles in the next appropriate legislation.

In the meantime, Dublin and Wexford County Councils have supplied the Garda Síochána, Traffic Corps, with mobile axle weighpads. These axle weighpads have been lent to the traffic corps in other divisions. The advantage of these weighpads is that they can be carried in a trailer attached to a patrol car and can be used outside the 5 mile operating radius of appointed weighbridges.
