Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Verolme (Cork) Dockyard.

Bernard Allen

Question:

113 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance if he will make a statement on the future of Verolme Dockyard, Cork; and the total moneys paid to the receiver since the closure of Verolme.

As I announced recently, agreement has been reached to sell Verolme Cork Dockyard to Damen Shipyards of Holland. This means that after a lapse of five and a half years since late 1984 when the yard went into receivership, ship repair and ship building will be resumed on a significant scale once more at Verolme. At present the company are engaged in discussions with the IDA as to the details of their investment plan to refurbish and enhance the facilities at Verolme and the grant package which should apply.

The total cost of the receivership is not yet known. The present receiver's fees to date amount to some £230,000 which have been met from funds available to the receiver from the disposal of assets and ongoing rental and other income.
