Vol. 400 No. 9

Written Answers. - Costs in Coillte Teoranta.

Paul Bradford

Question:

45 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to reports (details supplied) that costs in Coillte Teoranta are double the private sector experience; and if he will indicate whether he had discussions with the auditors in Coillte Teoranta regarding the presentation of costs in that company.

I have seen the report referred to by Deputy Bradford.

The day to day management of Coillte Teoranta's forest operations is a matter for the company. However, I am satisfied that the company's afforestation costs are in line with private sector costs, when account is taken of grants payable to private investors and the type of land planted.

The presentation of information in the company's accounts is in accordance with normal accounting practice and with the requirements of the Companies Acts, 1963-86. The accounts were approved by me and by the Minister for Finance as required by section 30 of the Forestry Act, 1988, following detailed consideration and discussions with the company and their auditors.
