Vol. 401 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport Withdrawal.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

114 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Education if she will investigate the withdrawal of school transport on 25 June 1990 from Kilgarvan and Annabla national schools, County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

There was no withdrawal as such of schools transport from Kilgarvan and Annabla national schools, County Kerry, on 25 June 1990.

The position is that the school transport schedules did not make provision for school transport for these schools on the date referred to. These are schedules which are drawn up each year pursuant to local consultation procedures. Schools are invited to participate in settling the service dates, and these dates are communicated formally to the schools before the beginning of the school year.

My understanding is that the Kilgarvan and Annabla schools did not send representatives to the consultation meetings and did not get in touch with the transport liaison officer on receipt of the schedules.
