Vol. 401 No. 2

Written Answers. - Magazine Circulation Control.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

47 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the free circulation in Ireland of a magazine (details supplied) which is freely available to people of all ages and which, in effect, is a magazine for terrorists; if he will outline the action he proposes to take to control the free circulation and availability of such material; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that in their view there is nothing contained in the magazine in question that is not widely available already from a variety of sources to any person seeking information on the subject area it covers. The magazine is distributed on an international basis and is freely available in neighbouring jurisdictions and elsewhere. In the circumstances control of circulation would appear to serve little purpose.
