Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Navan Hospital Mammographic Unit.

John Bruton

Question:

261 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if the Taoiseach met a delegation from the Meath Federation of the ICA on 26th March, 1990, in regard to the provision of a mammographic unit at Navan Hospital, County Meath; and, if so, if he will outline the results of this meeting.

I am aware that the Taoiseach met with a delegation from the Meath Federation of the ICA in regard to the provision of a mammographic unit at Navan Hospital. I also met with a delegation from the ICA along with the CEO of the North Eastern Health Board. The board has responsibility for the provision of services at Navan Hospital. Subsequently my Department and the North Eastern Health Board were involved in discussions with the ICA. I understand that the Project Director of the Eccles Breast Screening Programme has agreed to provide a diagnostic breast screening service for women from the Navan area. Officials from the North Eastern Health Board will be meeting with representatives of the Meath Federation of the ICA shortly in order to progress this matter further.
