Vol. 402 No. 6

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the member in each case: (1) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the serious delay with the commencement of the community school in Cashel, County Tipperary. (2) Deputy Roger Garland — the long delay in attending to 999 calls.

On a point of order——

I will hear no point of order now, Deputy. (3) Deputy Michael Moynihan — the serious position of housing applicants in the Killarney Urban District council area and the failure of the Minister for the Environment to provide the necessary funds to meet urgent housing needs. (4) Deputy Pádraic McCormack — the subject matter of Question No. 41 to the Minister for the Marine on 13 November regarding fish cages in Kinvara Bay. (5) Deputy Joe Sherlock — the closure of Garda stations in the Cork East area and its consequence on policing in the area. (6) Deputy Brendan Howlin — the effect of changes resulting from tax harmonization within the EC on Customs and Excise offices at Rosslare Harbour ferry port. (7) Deputy Nuala Fennell — the plans the Minister has to open up the remaining beds at Cheeverstown Hospital in view of the 328 residential places immediately required for mentally handicapped people. (8) Deputy Patrick J. Sheehan — the introduction of an appeal system for disadvantaged areas. (9) Deputy Jimmy Deenihan — the crisis facing many emigrant groups in England because they have not yet received funding from the Dion Committee. (10) Deputy Richard Bruton — the preparedness of Ireland's economy to deal with price disruption, and with potential supply difficulties in the oil market.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: Deputy Brendan Howlin, Deputy Richard Bruton and Deputy Joe Sherlock.

Before the Ceann Comhairle finished his submission to the House I asked him, on a point of order, to ensure that the proposal of sympathy to the Ellis family is reported as having been passed by this House, proposed by me and seconded by my friend, Deputy Garland, and by Deputy Foxe. Thank you.
