Vol. 402 No. 6

Written Answers - Deployment of Civil Servants.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

34 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice the number of clerical assistants deployed to Garda stations throughout the State within the past 12 months in order to relieve members of the Garda Síochána from clerical and secretarial duties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A total of 250 civilian clerical staff are being recruited to release gardaí from office work for outdoor operational duties. To date 126 clerical assistants have been assigned to Garda stations and offices and a further 13 are undergoing word-processing training prior to assignment. Recruitment of the remaining civilian staff is continuing.
