Vol. 402 No. 6

Written Answers - Socio-Economic Status of Third Level Students.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

46 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if she will outline in respect of students attending third level institutions in the past ten years their different socio-economic backgrounds; and the various employments of their parents in each case where such data is available.

The socio-economic status of new entrants to third level institutions in 1980 and 1986 is set out in the following table. This information was extracted from the reports "Participation in Higher Education" and "Who goes to College" which were compiled by Dr. Patrick Clancy. The reports were published by the Higher Education Authority in September 1982 and November 1988, respectively.

Data with regard to more recent years are not currently available.
