197 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment if any policy change has been made in relation to the advertising of vacancies for positions on local authorities; if it is still the policy that all such vacancies are advertised in the national press; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There has been no change in the general policy relating to the advertising of vacancies for positions in the local authority service. The need and the arrangements for the advertising of vacancies depend on various factors including the category of the position being filled.
