Vol. 403 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roscommon Hospital Services.

John Connor

Question:

18 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that acute overcrowding and a shortage of nurses remain an unresolved problem at Roscommon County Hospital; if he will make a statement on the status of the undertakings he gave in February 1990 to ensure the appointment of additional nurses and the provision of extra acute medical beds; and if these undertakings will now be honoured.

I am aware that there has been an on-going problem with overcrowding in Roscommon Hospital. In June 1990 I approved a scheme for the provision of a new in-patient unit at the hospital. Regarding the question of additional nurses I understand that following my approval for ten additional nurses in June 1990, a panel has been established by the Western Health Board from which appointments are made as the need arises.
