Vol. 403 No. 3
28 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Health if the number of severly handicapped in the State who have secured residential accommodation in Northern Ireland.
74 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Health if there is a State subsidy for people accommodated in Northern Ireland centres for the mentally handicapped; and, if so, the amount per capita.
I propose to take Question Nos. 28 and 74 together.
I assume that the Deputy's questions relate to persons with mental handicap. The number of mentally handicapped persons from the Republic receiving services in Northern Ireland and for which health boards are responsible is as follows: 24 persons in residential accommodation and one person in receipt of day services. The costs involved range from £2,600 to £10,200 per person per annum according to the dependency level.
