Vol. 403 No. 3

Written Answers. - Utilisation of Hospital Beds.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

41 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health if he will clarify the regulations relating to the utilisation of beds in public wards in regional hospitals for the treatment of private patients, while at the same time there is a waiting list of public health service patients to such hospitals.

Admission to public wards in regional hospitals is on the basis of medical need. Private patients of consultants may exercise their entitlement to public ward accommodation. However, priority may not be given to patients on any grounds other than medical need.
