Vol. 403 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sale of Irish Steel.

Peter Barry

Question:

65 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position, following the death of one of the proposed purchasers, of the negotiations for the sale of Irish Steel; his views on whether the delay in a decision being reached on the future of the company is having a very damaging effect on the morale of the workforce; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies to questions on this matter on 15 November 1990, columns 1691-1693, volume 402 of the Dáil Official Report of that date, since which time there has been no material change in the position of the negotiations.

The implications of the unfortunate death of one of the promoters are being explored at present.
