Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Kerry Tourism.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

31 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has satisfied himself that the diversification in marketing and promotion of tourism in County Kerry between Bord Fáilte and SFADCo is in the best interest of the industry in both County Kerry and nationally; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bord Fáilte, in addition to its responsibilities for overseas marketing, also retains overall responsibility for co-ordinating marketing and promotion on a national level to ensure a consistent approach to the implementation of national tourism policy.

The tourism functions which SFADCo have assumed for the Mid-West region, including North Kerry, related to product development, the provision of visitor information services, and promotion of the region in the home market. SFADCo liaise regularly with Bord Fáilte, and with regional tourism organisations for adjoining regions, like Cork-Kerry, in the case of specific projects so as to develop the tourism potential of the area in the best interests of the industry both in Co. Kerry and nationally.
