Written Answers. - Publication of Report on Departmental Laboratories.

Question:

56 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether it is intended to publish the report of the joint review with the Department of Finance of the structure and administration of departmental laboratories including the Cork Regional Veterinary Laboratory; when he expects that the recommendations of the review will be implemented; and if he will have regard to the frustration of veterinary surgeons and farmers arising from inadequate staffing levels at the Cork Regional Veterinary Laboratory.

The report referred to is a management survey on the main laboratories under my Department's control. It is not normal practice to publish reports of this nature and I do not propose to do so in this case.

The recommendations contained in the report, including those referring to the Cork Veterinary Laboratory, are at present being examined in my Department and will in due course be discussed with the staff interests concerned in accordance with the Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme for the Civil Service.
