Vol. 403 No. 5

Written Answers. - Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill (Cork) Policing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

66 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice if he will make a statement on the survey carried out by the family ministry group which showed that there was a need for an improved Garda presence in the area of Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill, County Cork and a need for the establishment of neighbourhood watch schemes in the area.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a neighbourhood watch scheme has been in operation for some time in the Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill area. In addition, the system of community policing has recently been extended to Cork and a community garda was appointed to the area in question on 14 November. The intention is to appoint a second garda to community policing duties in the Knocknaheeney/Hollyhill area as soon as circumstances permit.
