Vol. 403 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Presidency of EC.

Peter Barry

Question:

43 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the cost to his Department, of the Irish Presidency of the EC in 1984 and 1990.

In my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 63 of 31 October 1990, I explained that, because of the multiplicity of expenditure headings involved and the difficulty in many cases of isolating Presidency costs from the normal running costs of Departments, it is not practicable to give exact details of the cost to the Exchequer of the Presidency of the European Communities.

With this qualification, it is estimated that the total additional cost to my Department arising out of the Presidency in 1984 and 1990 was £807,400 and £2,576,594 respectively.
