Question:

48 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance the gross domestic product for each of the years from 1985 to 1990 inclusive; the projected gross domestic product for 1991; the annual increases in the consumer price index for each of the years from 1985 to 1990 inclusive; and the projected annual increase in same for 1991.

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of the years 1985 to 1989 is set out below. The Department's forecasts for 1990 are that gross domestic product is likely to be of the order of £25,700 million and that the average increase in the consumer price index compared with 1989 will be around 3½ per cent. The Department's forecasts for 1991 will be included in Economic Background to the Budget which will be available on budget day.
