Vol. 403 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork-Bandon Road Improvements.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

65 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to the major improvements needed on the Cork to Bandon Road; if he will outline his proposals in this regard; whether the necessary funding will be made available; the amount thereof; and when same will be provided.

My Department have agreed in principle to proposals from Cork County Council for the realignment of 6 kms. of the N71 from Crows Cross to Priests Bridge. On 16 November 1990 I confirmed, with minor modifications, the Cork County Council (Improvement of Cork-Bandon Road N71) Compulsory Purchase Order, 1989, which relates to land acquisition for the project.

The local authority have submitted a preliminary estimate of £6.6 million for the project. It is not possible to say at this stage what funding will be required or provided in 1991.
