Written Answers. - St. Patrick's Teacher Training College.

Enda Kenny

Question:

71 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement on the future of St. Patrick's Teacher Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9; and if she has fully satisfied herself that the college will continue to operate as a teacher training college in the future.

Enda Kenny

Question:

72 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the staff numbers and categories at present employed in St. Patrick's Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin 9; and if she will give an assurance that no proposals exist to reduce staff number at present involved in teacher training.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 71 and 72 together. The future of the teacher training colleges is being reviewed in the light of the severe downward movement in school enrolments. This review will take into account the views of concerned parties and the recommendations of the Primary Education Review Body.

The current authorised staff numbers in St. Patrick's College are 63 academic and 66 non-academic staff. The latter figure includes part-time staff.
