Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Employment Schemes.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

125 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Labour if he has extended beyond the 12 month period or provided extensions of re-employment to any individual on social employment schemes; and if he will list the schemes-projects which benefited; and the number of persons involved.

I have given FÁS authority, in exceptional circumstances, to allow the re-engagement of persons who have completed their term on social employment scheme projects where suitable replacements are not available so as to enable completion of projects. The arrangement is that participants involved return to the live register to allow time for replacements to be found and in the event that replacements are not available the original participants may be taken on again for a further 52 weeks.

The compilation of a detailed list of the projects involved since the commencement of the scheme could not be justified on the grounds of the administrative costs which would be involved. However, I have asked FÁS to prepare a list of current projects together with details of the number of participants involved and I will forward this to the Deputy as soon as it comes to hand.
