Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grants.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

159 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether, having regard to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 60 of 28 November 1990, the house improvement grants section of his Department have been computerised; if details of grants paid and amounts withheld in respect of such grants have been recorded; if he will outline (1) the number of grants which have been paid in County Kildare since 1 June 1987 and (2) the number of cases in which a reduced grant was paid and (3) the total amount of moneys withheld in respect of such cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Certain records on the house improvement grant scheme are computerised, including the amount of the grant paid to each applicant. However, details of cases where a lower grant was paid than that originally approved are not shown on computer but on the individual manual files of the applicant.

Information relating to the number of house improvement grants paid annually to applicants in each county is contained in the Department's annual bulletin of housing statistics, available in the Oireachtas Library. In the first 11 months of 1990, 174 house improvement grants were paid to applicants in County Kildare.

In relation to the last two parts of the question, I refer to the reply to Question No. 60 of 28 November 1990.
