Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - House Grant Regulations.

Peter Barry

Question:

166 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if he will amend the regulation for new house grants to allow separated wives to benefit when they are purchasing houses jointly with a parent, who will not be living in the house but whose involvement is insisted on by building societies and who may have received a new house grant 30 years ago.

The Housing (New House Grants etc.) Regulations, 1990, do not preclude a grant being paid to any person purchasing a new house jointly with a parent who previously purchased a house provided such person otherwise complies with the requirements of the scheme. In this regard, a separated person who had previously purchased a house with his or her spouse would have to comply with the terms of section 25 of the Housing Act, 1988.
