Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tipperary Speech Therapists.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

175 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health the number of speech therapists employed in County Tipperary; the number of people in need of the treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of speech therapy services in south Tipperary is the responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board and in North Tipperary it is the responsibility of the Mid-Western Health Board.

There are three speech therapists employed in south Tipperary. There are approximately 200 people awaiting treatment in the area.

There are five speech therapists employed in north Tipperary. There are no precise figures available in relation to the number of people in need of treatment in that area. However, the Mid-Western Health Board are preparing a comprehensive report on the service.
