Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Schools.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

196 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she intends to provide extra accommodation and funding (a) towards the provision of a physical education hall (b) to rectify the spalling fins and (c) to prevent heat loss in the Christian Brothers high school, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

My Department are aware of the issues referred to by the Deputy at the Christian Brothers high school, Clonmel. However, the board of management have indicated to my Department that their most urgent problem was one of leaking roofs. I have authorised that remedial work be undertaken and a tender for this work was approved last month. These roof works will entail considerable capital funding.

Regarding the question of a physical education hall, the Deputy will be aware that there are many applications before my Department for the provision and repair of much-needed classroom accommodation.

At present all available capital resources are committed to addressing this need.
