Vol. 403 No. 8

Written Answers. - Management of County Kerry Fishery.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

31 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the deep concern among local angling clubs arising from reports that the Office of Public Works propose to hand over control of the River Laune Fisheries to the South Western Regional Fisheries Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The fishery was acquired by the State under the Bourn Vincent Memorial Park Act, 1932, which, inter alia, requires that the Office of Public Works must ensure “that the general public have the same level of access to the fishery as heretofore”.

The Office of Public Works does not propose to hand over to the SWFBM.

Discussions have taken place with the Central Fisheries Board regarding the day-to-day operation of the fishery but no final decisions have been made in this regard. In the meantime the Office of Public Works will continue to manage the fishery as heretofore.
