Question:108 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Justice the way in which the £2 million in the Public Capital Programme, 1991 for courthouses will be spent.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 107 and 108 together.
As already indicated the Government has decided that local authorities should be relieved of the financial burden of providing and maintaining courthouses. The increased provision at subhead B3 of Vote 22 reflects that decision. The £2 million included in the provision for capital services will be used to fund approved courthouse repair and refurbishment projects.
