Michael Lowry

Question:

195 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the sub-standard structural conditions at the Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, County Tipperary; if he will outline the extent of remedial works to be undertaken; if he will further outline his long term plans for the provision of a new unit on this site to take account of the needs of geriatric patients in north Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Question:

199 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Health if he will outline developments in his Department in relation to the request by the Mid-Western Health Board for approval to proceed with the planning of hospital facilities to replace the Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 195 and 199 together.

I am aware of the structural problems of this hospital building. Discussions have taken place between officials of my Department and health board representatives concerning this matter. The board have been informed that developments in relation to this hospital are a matter in the first instance for the Mid-Western Health Board to decide in the context of available resources and competing projects.
