Michael Lowry

Question:

223 Mr. Lowry asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the projects which were submitted by Government for assistance from the European Structural Funds for educational infrastructure; when these projects were sanctioned by Government; the value of same; and the duration of the programme.

The EC Commission on 14 December 1990 approved an application from Ireland for assistance from the European Structural Fund for vocational training infrastructure.

The application includes provision for infrastructural development in respect of the following institutes run under the aegis of my Department: Tallaght Regional Technical College; Dublin City University; Bishop Street College; St. Patrick's College, Maynooth; University College, Cork; University College, Galway; College of Catering, Cathal Brugha Street; Regional Technical College refurbishment and enhancement; Third Level Sector Equipment Programme.

The projects were approved by the Irish authorities prior to the submission to the EC Commission.

The total cost of the educational projects over the duration of the programme to end 1993 is estimated to be £75.6 million including assistance from the Regional Fund.
